Schwinn Tailwind electric bike review

After leaving the cemetery, I pedaled a county road that unrolls over five hilltops with valleys in between. On the downhills, I went to 0 assist and flew down, hitting 36 mph on one of them. In each case I pedaled unassisted part way up the next climb, moving to a numbered assist level only when gravity began to bite. In 2019, the company finally entered the electric bike market with a line of Schwinn eBikes for every type of rider.

Available in both step-through and traditional layouts and intended to suit riders within a general height range of 5-foot-4 and 6-foot-4, the Coston seems to be largely geared toward families. Instead of a front suspension, the Coston DX has a 27.5” Alloy rigid fork, creating a stiffer ride but with better speed and power transfer. Components are MicroShift 7-speed shifters, KMC chain, and JAK 7 mechanical disc brakes with 160mm front and rear rotors. The frame is the same 6061 aluminum with internal cable routing.

When you’re a parent of two who works from home, this sort of quick trip to the store can happen fairly often. Normally, I’d hop in my car and zip down to the store, but this summer, I was able to stop using my car and start using my bike for almost everything. We’ve addressed those concerns by designing Extended schwinn beach cruiser Life Batteries for a couple of our best-selling e-bikes. In short, think primarily about what you want to do on your e-bike, where you’re most likely to ride it, and how much you want to spend. The battery actually lasts better than the other one that I have and out performs what I would have thought it would.

Finally, the position of the plug connector for the battery pack means it can only be recharged when taken off the bike. It would be more convenient if it could be left in position on the bike and plugged in. The 250 watt motor could be bigger for this bike to use the throttle regularly and give a better boost on hills. Turning takes a little bit to get used to as it is a little more top-heavy than a regular bike with the battery. After a few minutes it’s just like riding a normal bike.

Most ebikes just have a big battery hanging off the bottom tube. The middle power/enter button turns the bike on while holding it. The battery has to be on before turning the bike on which got me the first time I tried. The Marshall looks like a mountain bike with a comfy cruiser feel to it.

When you think about EVs, you probably (rightly) think of cars. But there’s another class of EV that might have slipped below your radar, but which has transformed my summer in very unexpected ways. The bike was provided by Schwinn for the purposes of the review. Below, we’ve put together an easy-to-use guide on picking the best Schwinn e-bike for you.
