Having room to spread out inside a tent is great, but unless it’s after dark or raining, chances are you won’t be spending any more time inside your shelter than you absolutely have to. Nobody wants to spend all day sitting in direct sunlight either though, and that’s where a tent with a screen room like this Ozark Trail 9 Person Cabin comes into play. Every year, thousands of new campers get their first taste of the outdoors in an Ozark Trail tent. Their combination of space and affordability catches the eye of many campers, but the details on these shelters can be lacking.
Once the structure is up, all you have to do is attach the detachable sun shade. There is only one shade, which can be put on either side of the sun shelter. You just angle the shelter where you need it, then attach the shade. It’s literally that easy and is very quick and efficient to set up. First off, this is an affordable solution for a sun shelter. It’s not jam packed with all the bells and whistles that some of the other sun shades have, but the price was right, and it’s more than serving it’s purpose.
Although we always recommend using anchors such as weighted sand bag or stakes with guy lines attached to the top corners. It’s big enough for a family of four, a dog and all the gear, or for myself and my dog and gear with space for the dog to roam at night without getting into stuff. With the rainfly, nice and private, without the rainfly, a nice screen tent, and can keep the door zippered closed and keep the bugs out while airing the tent out during the day. One person can easily set up this tent in less than 8 minutes (once they’ve set it up one time so they are familiar with setup procedures) which is great if you have bad weather or bad weather is moving in. It is lightweight enough to be packable (to a reasonable extent) and holds up very well to some conditions most people will never put it to.
You can also easily dispose of packing materials and the cardboard box without having to worry about the wind blowing them away or packing out the trash. The Ozark Trail 8×8 Instant Sun Shade did exactly what we needed it to. It kept us out of the sun when we didn’t want to be in it. I don’t see why you would spend more money on the more expensive sun shades, when the Ozark Trail did such a great job. We did take it to the beach on a day that had a little wind. One kept coming loose, but we just had to keep pushing it back in the ground. We filled up the pockets at the bottom with some sand and rocks, and that was all we really needed to do to keep it secure.
Both models of the Ozark Trail shelter come with tent pegs and sandbags to secure your shelter against wind. Simply push or hammer the pegs through the metal rings along the edges of the tent or fill the empty sandbags to provide a counterweight. For windier conditions, bring paracord to secure the metal rings ozark trail sun shelter to a log, boulder or tree for more stability. I had purchased the item about eight months before getting to use it. Customer service stated that it was past the point where the purchase populated in their system. If used heavily, I can not see this product making it through a full camping or outdoor season.
They’re not built for heavy winds, and they certainly aren’t made to stand up to heavy snow. Livability describes the overall day-to-day experience of owning and using a tent, and tents that are more comfortable, convenient, and easy to use score the highest in terms of livability. Our favorite Ozark Trail tent currently is the Ozark Trail Three Room Instant Cabin. This tent’s combination of floor space, livability, and value make it a home run for large groups or families looking to spread out in style, but this 12-person behemoth won’t be everyone’s first choice. Getting our hands dirty with one of the best sun shelters on the market.
Why not add a little extra height to make it more comfortable? This wasn’t the end of the world, but something I will consider with my next sun shield purchase. Ships in the manufacturer’s original packaging, which may reveal the contents.
We put the lightweight Cool Cabana pop up beach canopy to the test during an East Coast vacation. I’ve only been to Exuma once but my heart resides in Eleuthera. I actually think I may have purchased another type of pop-up shelter once upon a time. I will investigate the garage and report back if I find anything worthwhile. I won’t have much time in Nassau to shop and I heard that everything (except conch) costs significantly more there than in the US. I get check-in baggage for free and therefore don’t mind carrying the shelter with me.
A subreddit for campers concerned more about the act of camping and less concerned about hiking long distances or light gear. Browse Ozark Trail’s top-rated hiking and camping gear and more. I continually snooped on other campers to see what I missed on other brands. The cup holders seem ridiculous, since food should never be taken in a tent.
