Coleman Sundome 6 Tent Review

Bear in mind, this is a rather heavy tent and not the best choice for backpacking or hiking tours. There are no vestibules to store gear, so if it is used for two people, you will be very cramped inside. I have used this tent in the wind, rain, snow, and sun without any problems. This is a decent 3-season tent, it’s not great, but it’s not bad either. It’s easy to set up and pack up, and has a few nice features as well.

Plan C was to venture out beyond the bounds of our campsite for a little stealth camping and maybe some smoother ground. The same day I planned to find a place to pitch the tent, a norovirus hit 13 of our 53 scouts, so the remainder of the day was spent making rounds checking on the kids. I’ll spare you the glorious details, but picture the pie eating contest scene from Stand By Me and that’ll give you a pretty good idea.

Further aiding to the straightforward set up was the relatively small rainfly, which was easy to toss over the tent. Even assembling the Sundome 6 solo was a smooth process, which took less than 10 minutes from start to finish at a leisurely pace. And while Coleman attaches the instructions to the inside of the storage bag, we still think it’s a good idea to do a dry run in your backyard before heading out on a trip. If there is one area where the 6 let us down the most, it certainly would be weather protection (or lack thereof). The rainfly only extends about halfway down on all sides, leaving the lower portion of the tent body exposed, and you won’t find any sealed seams to help keep water out.

Get outdoors and enjoy a great camping experience with Coleman! Now that we have taken a quick look at each of the tents, we’ll compare the key features and see which ones come out on top. Much like with all Coleman tents, their main selling point is often the overall value of the tent rather than special design features that make it stand out.

Adding to the breezy feel is its partial rainfly, which when guyed out allows for a significant amount of airflow on warm summer nights. You also get a zippered mesh door and back wall along with a floor vent located at the back of the tent. Storage pockets inside coleman ice chest keep gear organised and a heavy-duty PE floor keeps your sleeping space free of moisture. The 4-Person Sundome® Dark Room™ Dome Camping Tent blocks 90% of sunlight (vs. a comparable Coleman® tent) so you can put the kids to bed early or sleep in past sunrise.
