Those bigger wheels can be intimidating, but they aren’t completely uncontrollable. The Big Ripper is an icon from SE, lending a stable ride for those who want to pop big wheelies and cruise down the block. Those larger wheels, however, can be downright intimidating for smaller or younger riders. The 26-inch Flyer is the way to go if you want to jump into the Bike Life culture without feeling like you’re mounting a steed of a 29-inch. Plus, it looks fantastic with its retro style based on BMX culture of decades past.

As a taller person, I think I would possibly put higher rise bars on it eventually. All in all though, I’d most likely just leave it it until I significantly damaged or broke anything on this bike before I’d invest in any upgrades/replacement parts. The bike has almost totally cured me of the aging MTBer’s bad habit of hanging off the back of the saddle when things get hairy. If you hang off the back of the Mongoose Fireball Moto you go wrong.

Overall, I feel the spec is pretty darned well thought out. Not so cheapy or cost-cutting as to impair the bike handling but not so verly fancy as to make you worried about(ab)using this bike the way it’s supposed to be (ab)used. Our experienced testers spent many hours and miles using these bikes for their intended purpose.

It has excellent performance, is spec’d smartly, comes out of the box almost 100% ready for commuting use, and is priced well. We recommend the Level to any commuter or recreationally oriented rider looking for great value, performance, and function in an e-bike. The Aventon Level checks off almost every one of the necessary boxes in what I look for in a purpose-built commuter bike.

One of our most frequently asked questions in freestyle is, which rear hub do I want, a freecoaster or a cassette? Most experienced riders know their preference, but if you’re new to the sport it can be difficult to know which choice to make. The older I get the more I realise I am very particular about the configuration of my bike. The Pro XXL frame was the right length for me but there was a significant difference in the handlebar, stem and crank sizes compared to what I use. Sure I could have changed a few parts around but instead I passed it off to bmxultra.com team pilot and BMX guru Paul Knox. He was very interested, not only as a complete bike, but also as an OS20 conversion.

All our bikes are cherry picked from the very best BMX specialist brands, and all our bikes are designed specifically for use at the skatepark or on the track. It’s hard to quantify exactly but yes, I think it has. It’s certainly reminded me to stay off mongoose racing bike the brakes (unless/until you really have to use them) and to get more over – and lower down – at the front of the bike. As terrifying as it may be at first, you really cannot ride this bike without being really over the front tyre’s contact patch.

If you’re a fan of BMX bikes, you’re probably familiar with the Mongoose brand. For decades, Mongoose has been synonymous with high-quality, durable BMX bikes that are designed for superior performance. And one of the most iconic Mongoose bikes of all time is the California Special. LUXBMX offers free shipping on all orders over $199 (excluding bikes) Australia-wide with a flat rate express upgrade of $7.99. Bike shipping is calculated by location and bike size. Choosing the right level bike for your riding ability is important.

Mongoose designs BMX Freestyle and BMX Race bikes for riders of all ages and ability levels, and our bikes are trusted by some of the world’s best riders. To be frank, I think it’s a good idea to not to overly bothered about the bike and the parts that it’s built up with. Apart from the suspension fork, I don’t think think there’s any component on this bike that would be significantly improved by an upgrade. The bike is not a comfy or easy-going experience. Which is not so much a criticism, it’s more of an observation of the way things inherently are on playbikes like these. Today, we are looking, specifically at the Pro, Pro XL and Pro XXL models.
