Cooler Throw Down: Does Ozark Trail Stack up with Yeti and Pelican?

But when this vessel is knocked on its side, it leaks considerably—the press-in lid doesn’t create a secure seal at the mouth of the tumbler. The Rambler currently costs more per ounce of capacity than our other picks, and it includes just one type of lid. If you also would like a straw lid, you’ll have to pay another $10—and that lid doesn’t have a rubber gasket around the straw opening, to keep the straw from sliding around. The lip of the mouthpiece gently slopes, to eliminate any splashing, and the MagSlider port cover smoothly glides open and closed.

Not only will the rubber allow for a slightly smoother roll ozark trail tumbler when you are pull this cooler along, but it will also be quieter. You won’t wake the neighbors up when you are pulling this down your dock. Rounding out the exterior is a lid that features 4 cup holders and inch notches for measuring your catch of the day.

Then we knocked each one over to see how much, if any, liquid seeped out. Since 2019, I’ve been analyzing, reviewing, and generally obsessing over products here at Wirecutter, where I’ve written about everything from label makers to solar-eclipse-viewing gear. Most pertinently, I’ve written about insulated wine tumblers, and I spent quite a bit of time testing the buzzy Stanley tumbler against 40-ounce dupes that line store shelves. Most insulated tumblers—whether palm-sized or gigantic—are made from the same materials. And they function in similar ways, which gave me a leg up when I started my research for this guide.

The slim Everyday Tumbler tapers toward the bottom (its base measures 2.5 inches), so it’s compatible with most cupholders we encountered. Cupholder sizes vary depending on an automobile’s make and model, so it may not fit in every car’s cupholder. But with its tapered, 2.8-inch base, the Simple Modern tumbler fits into my Subaru’s cupholders, and it also fits into the treadmill cupholders at my gym. Of all the tumblers we tested, the 24-ounce Simple Modern Classic Tumbler offers the best combination of performance and value.

You can grab them at Walmart in some new colors right now as low as $14.97. AND there is now a new smaller version that your kids might like. If you’re not concerned about the brand name that’s on the outside of the cup, most can agree that Ozark Trail is a MUCH better value for your money. Tumblers, one from YETI and one from Ozark Trail, to test if there’s a difference that would make me want to spend 4x as much money for the YETI.

When you are out on the water, people often sneak over to grab something from the cooler and may not latch it back up. With a hard plastic latch, you run the risk of brushing by the cooler and hitting your shin, which I have done and is awful. One of my favorite features though is the rubber wheels vs. the hard plastic wheels on the Pelican and Yeti.

With a 40-ounce capacity, this reusable tumbler is the drinkware everyone needs in their pantry. Double wall insulation and double wall lid keeps liquid hot and cold longer. This tumbler kept beverages cold for nine hours (longer than any other vessel we tested). And its straw lid creates a tight seal that prevents most leaks. But it comes in a limited number of colors and sizes, and it has a straw lid only.

It comes in a few fun colors and there’s also a five year warranty that comes with every Yeti purchase. Finally, I added the vinyl to a piece of transfer tape to make adding the design to my tumbler MUCH easier. Personalize this tumbler with a text, monogram, or graphic to really make it unique. Stanley Cups are notorious for selling out quickly to the point of being used as joke material on Saturday Night Live.

The Yeti Rambler has a rugged look, which may appeal to some people. This tumbler has a wider, squatter profile than our other picks. For anyone in the market for a cooler that works and won’t break the bank, I would absolutely take a serious look at what Ozark Trail has to offer.

I also placed  a small weather system on the deck ozark trail canopy rail to help get a sense of how hot surface temperatures are in the area. On one of the hottest days, the remote sensor reported temperatures exceeding 107 Degrees Fahrenheit while the air temp was in the high 80’s. Our sister site Alloutdoor.com recently reviewed a hiking backpack sold by Ozark Trail that had an overall stellar performance and it triggered a question among our staff.
