29″ Genesis GS29 Mountain Bike 800 mile performance review by Marvin McKenzie Fitness After Fifty

With so many different variables this is an impossible question for us to answer properly! Please do head over to your local Genesis dealer to talk through price points, intended genesis bicycles use and of course compatibility with the rest of your set-up. We may be able to supply a digital file of the decal you need but you will need to prove you own the bike.

Most of these bikes are full-suspension, that can go over nearly any type of terrain. Trail bikes strike a balance between downhill and cross country style features with 27.5 or 29” wheel sizes, and lightweight suspension and travel between 130mm and 160mm. Whether your thing is flying down, or hauling up, Specialized has you covered.

Each online sale supports the selected bike shop with a percentage of your sale, whether you choose to click & collect or get it delivered straight to your door. Please note that Freewheel currently only deliver within the UK at this time. 26 inches used to be the standard size for mountain bike wheels, but now 27.5- and 29-inch sizes have taken over the market.

We inspire and inform through original bikepacking routes, stories, and coverage of the gear, news, and events that make our community thrive. We believe travel by bicycle has the power to encourage conservation, inclusivity, and respect for all people and cultures. Even though there are countless options for rackless bags, having mounts for extra bottles or accessory cages is a nice perk for carrying extra bottles and gear. Rack and fender mounts are also important to many bikepackers and bike tourers, although not absolutely necessary for this list. We made sure that most of the bikes we included have at least a third pair of cage mounts (typically under the downtube). Even better, many of these bikes have forks with pairs or triplets of blade mounts for added water capacity or bags such as the Oveja Negra Bootlegger.

Genesis bikes became renowned for their use of steel tubing and ethos for function over form. Singletrack uses affiliate services called Skimlinks and which means we may earn revenue if you buy a product after clicking a link to a retailer on our site. The other contact points were all Genesis branded and I think that those are all personal choice, especially a saddle and I didn’t get on with the OEM one particularly well, but it was fine on shorter rides. I was pleased to see the TRP Spyre callipers supplied with compressionless housing – this meant they worked well and were able to control the breaking down some of the steeper trails, obviously with less modulation than a hydraulic equivalent. However, through our online retail partner Freewheel, you are able spread the cost of your new bike via a finance scheme. We recommend noting down your frame number (located on the underside of the Bottom Bracket) and using one of the many online services available.

All our frames are put together by hand in batches and then assembled before being shipped over to our warehouse. We now have a list of rear-mech hangers compatible with Genesis bikes – please visit your local dealer to order one. Issue 09 takes readers on trips through time—one to the early days of bicycles—and offers several reminders to be grateful for supportive friends and family, and strangers we meet along the way… One of the most important measurements to consider is the top tube length and reach. Top tube length is the difference between the head tube and the seat tube, functionally the distance the rider is from the bars when seated. Reach is the distance between the center of the bottom bracket and the head tube, how far the rider is from the bars when standing on the bike.

For those going on gravel and long tours on their bike, a chromoly steel frame mountain bike might be something to look into. Being resistant to fatigue and easy to repair, these can handle long-term rides with a fair amount of weight. These bike frames are mainly available from custom frame builders and therefore have a large price tag. One important thing to be aware of with steel bikes is that they’re very susceptible to rust.

You can also buy your new Genesis through Freewheel – your local bike shop online. You have the option to have your new bike delivered to your local dealer, or to your door. The Genesis UAV 1.0 is a modern 27.5″ with hard packed tires that rolls over everything. Light alloy frame with 24 speeds, and mech disc brakes. As mentioned, you can pop a drop handlebar on nearly any mountain bike and call it a drop-bar mountain bike. There are plenty of great options out there, as shown above, and many custom builders taking on this category. A couple of my personal favorites, and bikes I recommend to a lot of people, are the Kona Sutra LTD and Salsa’s Cutthroat or Fargo.
