On sunny days and clear nights, take off the fly and enjoy the sky through the tent’s clear mesh canopy. Some testers, though, thought the tent was stuffy when the fly was fully closed and the sun was out. After researching 30 six-person tents and testing 15 side by side on a total of five trips, we chose the Kelty Wireless 6 as the best entry-level camping tent for most families. It’s spacious, easy to set up, has weather protection, and is durable, all at an affordable price. The Wireless 6 lacks some of the premium materials found in pricier tents, but it features solid workmanship and should provide dependable, comfortable shelter in most three-season camping situations.
But it’s one of the least expensive tents we found that had no significant drawbacks and will truly cover your bases for three-season camping. The tent also comes with its own footprint, a groundsheet that protects the tent from abrasion, which we recommend that you have. One night during testing, for example, clouds loomed in the distance with clear skies overhead. After we pitched the tent, the Mineral King 3’s adaptable fly let us leave half the mesh dome uncovered.
Both come with storage sacks that you sling over one shoulder. Coleman makes no dedicated footprints for its tents—the idea being that the polyethylene is tough enough not to need one. (Still, we suggest that you buy a groundsheet.) The tent has two small, internal pockets—fewer than on any of our other picks—and a loop at the ceiling center to hang a small, lightweight light. The tent weighs just 16 pounds, less than any other family tent we tested for this guide. The separate fly, which covers the upper half of the tent, uses a third, shorter “brow” pole to form protective peaks over the door and the back window. In our tests, an experienced camper took only about six minutes on the first try to set up the tent body alone and stake it out.

I will be going with a Coleman on the next purchase. Trust me, it’s worth the money when you are soaking wet a long distance from your car. All and all for a cheap tent from Walmart I think it’s ok.
The fly is so small it allows rain to blow up under and then runs into the tent. My family and I have used it a total of 3 times and the seams have ripped. There is no way we can camp with this tent, if it would rain it would ruin everything. We, like some others, know that tents are NOT waterproof, so we sprayed the seams etc. with water replant. When we reached the beach everything went great, first night 30 mh winds.
I’m physically disabled and by the sound of these reviews I don’t think this tent will make it a day… The only good thing is that the poles have not broke yet and I automatically waterproofed it so I have had only 1 or 2 small leaks when it rained lightly. B.Pallets marked B grade are considered straight store returns.
The reviews when I bought it were 4 out of 5 stars 290 people. Didn’t get a chance to set it up before we went camping. I don’t know if it leaks because there was no rain and I only set it up in a friend’s backyard so the kids could camp out overnight. I wish I still had my receipt because I would return this poor excuse for a tent and get my money back. I will never buy another dome tent, and now I wish I would have checked the reviews before I bought this one.
