Underneath the fly, the Mineral King 3 has a full mesh dome with a waterproof, tape-seamed bathtub-style polyester floor. The tent doors are nearly wall-sized, and after you unzip them, you simply stuff them into pockets, rather than having to roll and toggle-tie the fabric.
The material of the tent body and rainfly are made of 68D coated polyester fabric. Apart from the roof though, there’s not a lot of mesh from the 5 windows and the door, because they’re not very big. Because it’s ridiculously inexpensive, the quality, design and weather protection isn’t the best, though I think it’ll work decently in summer (without rain, of course). With the versatility of 3 rooms, we love how well this tent would work in a group or family camping situation.
There’s a lot to love here, but as the Ozark Trail Three Room Instant Cabin is still a budget department store tent, you’ll want to be aware of a few shortcomings. First, although this is an instant tent, the unique layout and integrated awning make setup a little more involved than most. Second, the tall vertical walls and “L” shape make it about as far from aerodynamic as they come. Do NOT phone in the guyline portion of set-up (regardless of the weather) or you’ll risk damaging the tent.
We believe it is definitely a tent you should consider if the above features are of interest to you. It will go up a lot easier with someone helping out to keep the set-up time to under 2 minutes.
