With the right maintenance and professional assembly from a company like National Assemblers, you can enjoy your genesis mountain bike for years to come. Here at National Assemblers, we understand that assembling a bike can be a daunting task. With testing complete, we release two bikes built for adventure – the Datum (faster, lighter Croix) and Vagabond (the Croix’s mad aunt). There’s also room for a new mountain bike that takes 27.5 plus tyres, or regular 29ers. We’ve partnered with Freewheel as a solution to offer Genesis bikes online whilst supporting local bike shops at the same time. Each online sale supports the selected bike shop with a percentage of your sale, whether you choose to click & collect or get it delivered straight to your door.
These are the dedicated carbon race bikes, as ridden by the (now disbanded) UCI continental team Madison Genesis. The frame has internally routed cables for better aerodynamics and a wide section down tube for better torsional stiffness. The aero features of more expensive bikes are present, with cables are routed internally and the leading edges of the frame are smoothly rounded.
Cornering is quick and precise with rear wheel drift easily attainable. Genesis are a British brand that have been building decent bikes and a decent reputation so I was looking forward to a chance to see if the positive buzz about the company and their bikes was well earned. Our bikes will take you to those places, fulfill your curiosities and make you remember why going for a ride is one of life’s most brilliant experiences.

When full, these same concentric rings park bikes safely and securely. The Genesis™ offers two contact points, at front and rear, for locking. The unique concentric design of the Genesis™ bike rack helps guide bikes into proper parking position while providing double the parking space of typical serpentine racks. They include five genesis bike flat bar ‘Day One’ models, the singlespeed drop bar Flyer and seven hardtail mountain bikes. Sitting somewhere in the middle was the Vapour – a cyclo-cross bike that would occupy our thoughts around bikes that can go further… There are, however, a number of points that make this a more versatile bike than the carbon alternative.
The first Genesis bike was produced under the Ridgeback brand as the Day One model in 2001. Due to its popularity, Genesis became a label in its own right in 2006. We’re experiencing a very high volume of orders during the Pre-Holiday Season. Sign up for our Newsletter to receive inventory and new bikes updates. Please note that Freewheel currently only deliver within the UK at this time. Given the versatility of this frame, it is perhaps to be expected that there is a large number of different builds on offer. It is available with flat bars and drop bars, carbon forks and steel forks, there’s even a titanium frame option. For each of the builds, there are different spec levels donated by a ‘10’ for the entry level and ’30’ for the top line. Other bikes might have the specificity to perform better in a single one of these uses, but very few bikes would be able to perform as well as the Croix de Fer in all of them. It is the combination of a vast array of mounts, a robust steel frame and wide tyre clearances that allow this bike to be such a jack of all trades.
There has been much talk about the Alpitude and the clear design ethos behind it, which was to make a bike that you could… An impressive fork at this price point and sensible kit are great and the wheels finish the package off nicely but the main attraction genesis bike here is the geometry. Once rolling the true nature of the Genesis started to shine through, a lively agile ride that encourages you to push on and flick the bike through singletrack whilst looking for roots and rocks to bunny hop and pop off.
