I carried this daypack back n forth on a trail to the shower while camping. The bag stayed in place on my back using the sternum strap. Having a separate rain fly for a 2- or 3- person tent makes sense because multiple people can split up the weight a little easier on longer hikes. With a 1-person tent, that doesn’t really make as much sense. After all, I was carrying the whole thing and so it might as well be connected.

While this is made of a lightweight water resistant material, it does not have a built in rain flap. This roomy and practical backpack works well for a multi-day hike. One feature that has become priceless to me is the forward slanted bottle holder.
Which size you need really comes down to what all you plan to have in your pack. A frame is important because it will keep your back from getting sore by distributing the weight along your spine and hips, rather than on your shoulders. A frameless bag with only a few pounds of gear might feel heavier than an internal frame backpack loaded with up to 30 pounds. For most people, I recommend choosing a backpack with an internal frame, unless you need the portability and flexibility of a frameless. Before purchasing this pack I used a more traditionally styled, and heavier, backpack for daily walks. A great pack for day hikes, hunting and weekend camping. While this pack may not be big enough to carry all the gear you need for longer treks, it offers many of the features you would want at a good price. When all folded up, it takes up about the same amount of space as two t-shirts. Overall, its a great backup to have when traveling, and very inexpensive. A backpack is perhaps the most important part of your hiking setup. Once again, it took me a little bit of time hiking before realizing that, but luckily, I have a few different suggestions after using several packs over the years.
