Kent’s Bike Blog: I didn’t need or want an ebike, but now I’m glad I’ve got one!

The bike comes about 75% pre-assembled, and I only needed to attach the front wheel and fender, handlebars and saddle. Things started off on the wrong foot when I realized some of the seat post assembly pieces were missing. (Luckily, my local bike co-op was able to hook me up with the needed parts!) But that was really the only major problem with assembly.

“There’s 10 strands of batteries and each strand has got seven batteries, so it’s an array of 70 cells, so 70 vapes,” he said. “I snuck off and it was amazing, it felt like there was as much power as using one of my actual e-bike batteries,” Mark said. “The technology is no different to any other lithium-ion battery, it’s exactly the same as the cells that are in a Tesla. In May, Mark tested his homemade e-bike on a three-mile stretch to Sevenoaks and is now planning his “stage two” design, which he said will not have so many wires hanging out. Lukas also said if riders do not park their vehicles in the correct zones they will continue to be charged until it is corrected.

Anyone under 160 lbs will LOVE this bike—my wife (5’7 and 130 lbs) is one of those people who is a perfect fit for this e-bike. I started riding mountain bikes when I was a teenager in Augusta, Georgia. When I say mountain bikes, I really mean a 90s Huffy 18-speed I bought from Walmart for $60 without a front suspension. A group of us would carpool out to a lake trail, then ride with reckless abandon, flying over the handlebars multiple times each trip. A very basic LED display indicates battery and power-assist levels but doesn’t include a speedometer or mileage counter.

The Kent Torpedo is the first electric bicycle that I know of designed specifically for children. And it’s so much fun (even for me as a full-fledged adult) that it surely won’t be the last one. Because its battery is mounted underneath its rear rack, SixThreeZero Around the Block e-cruiser has more of that classic beach cruiser look.

Retailing for under $700 (around £515/AU$970), the Kent Electric Cruiser was created for them. S-200 has a front and rear-facing camera embedded in the scooter that allows our remote operators to reposition the e-scooter as needed.

Without the battery, the Kent Torpedo is easy enough to pedal, though it will definitely feel a bit heavier than a typical kid’s bike. The geared motor doesn’t provide any extra resistance other than adding a couple pounds of needless weight. There’s also a 6-speed shifter that makes it easier for kids to climb hills in the proper gear, even without electric power. If the battery does die on a ride, the shifter kent electric bike definitely makes it more manageable to pedal. While nearly all the best electric bikes I’ve ridden or reviewed over the years have been aimed at commuters or enthusiasts, research shows that older Americans are the most frequent purchasers of motorized bicycles. Most of these buyers probably haven’t ridden a bicycle in decades and are looking for a cheap and non-intimidating way to get back on the bike.

The Shimano drivetrain shifted flawlessly between its eight speeds, and the mechanical disc brakes on the front and rear worked capably in dry conditions. Kids should be a certain age before they are mature enough to handle the extra power of an e-bike, even a low-power one like this. Of course, all the fun is in going fast in high power mode, though that drains the battery quicker.

Mid-drive motors, unlike hub motors, actually power the bike through the standard gears on a bicycle. Hub motors, on the other hand, are single-speed drivetrains that bypass the gears and chain altogether, allowing them to be controlled quite simply as there are no gears to worry about. This is a gross oversimplification, but you can kind of think about it like automatic versus manual transmission cars, at least in terms of simplicity and ease of learning or use for the driver. Then one day, a fellow mountain biker asked if I wanted to ride his bike around the parking lot.
