As Braun’s most advanced shaver to date, the Braun Series 9 Pro+ (9599cc) is a considerable upgrade to older Series 9 and Series 9 Pro models. The shaver comes bundled with the SmartCare Center with cleaning solution, a mobile charging PowerCase, a cleaning brush, and for the first time ever, a ProComfort head to prep the face before shaving. Before you begin comparing , assess your total grooming needs to find the right model.
The old Series 7 was really close to them performance-wise despite only having 3 cutting elements. They come with the same shaving head and pretty much everything about them is the same. However, there are some differences between a standard S9 model like the 9390cc and a Pro or Pro+ S9 when it comes to shaving performance.
But unlike the Braun Series 7 foil block, which pivots along two axes, this less-expensive shaver pivots only up and down. Although no cleaning system is available, you can easily rinse the shaver under running water. The battery life is about 60 minutes, a bit less than what Braun’s model offers, but that should be more than enough for most people, even when you’re traveling.
The Series 7 70 also comes with the so-called Autosense technology, a sensor that supposedly reads the beard density and adjusts the power output accordingly. Just like with all Braun cc stations, you would need the Braun CCR cartridges but you can buy and use a third-party cleaning solution as well. The old Series 7 was in my opinion one of Braun’s best ever shavers and my personal favorite. Otherwise, the price difference for getting only a flexing head is probably not worth it. The integrated S3 ProSkin slide-out trimmer is better for quick touch-ups and I don’t particularly like the EasyClick trimmers of the Series 5 50, Series 6 and Series 7 70. However, considering its price and performance — extremely similar to an inexpensive Series 3 ProSkin) — I recommend getting a Series 6 only if you will be using the trimming accessories.
Whether it’s finding great products or discovering helpful advice, we’ll help you get it right (the first time). Braun’s Series 9 clean-and-charge base uses the same cartridges as the Series 7 base (and those of all other Braun shavers) and is functionally identical. Replacement cartridges last about three months and cost about $25 for a four-pack. Replacement foils are considerably more expensive for the Series 9; they currently run about $50, compared with about $30 to $40 for the Series 7. We believe the Braun Series 7 is worth its higher price, but the Remington F is a surprisingly competent budget alternative.
Featuring Philips Norelco’s Ultraflex Suspension system, the S9000 Prestige has one of the most comfortable contouring technology I’ve tested, which is incredibly important for clean shaves. With the orientation of rotary shavers, the S9000 Prestige isn’t good at shaving specific areas like below a beard line in the same way a foil shaver would. Rather than being built into the shaver, the rotary shaver can be removed and replaced with a trimmer for detailed grooming. Many Braun electric shavers, like this wet and dry model, are equipped with rechargeable batteries. However, the rechargeable battery, often lithium-ion, tends to make the electric shaver heavier.
These typically require two AA batteries, and on average, will provide up to two hours of shave time. Manual razors offer a closer shave, especially around areas like the chin and jawbone. One thing to keep in mind with manual razors, however, is that they require ongoing purchases of replacement cartridges and shaving cream, which can really add up. So if you’re the guy who just want to do a once-over every day in the shower or just before, then a 30-second pass with the Arc5 will keep you smoothly polished without worry. It’ll be a sad day if and when Panasonic retires the Arc5, because it feels so pivotal to where we are in electric shaving these days. So consider this my part to keep its legacy alive, and to save you some big bucks in the process.
That’s a quick and relatively inexpensive upgrade if your shaver is still in good working condition (the battery holds a decent charge and there’s no serious physical wear). The original 83 Series 8 solo (and cc) shavers will work with the basic station (no active drying), but also with the more advanced one shipped with the 84 and 85 Series 8. But otherwise, the Series 7 70 wouldn’t be my pick for a mid-range braun hair removal Braun electric shaver. For example, it will work fine for someone shaving every two days and who doesn’t have particularly sensitive skin. Shaving with it is a real treat and despite being an old model, it still outperforms most of today’s shavers in Braun’s portfolio. Despite having only 3 shaving elements, it was really good at shaving longer stubble and dealt with flat-lying hairs extremely well.
