Giant is the largest manufacturer of quality bicycles in the world. What they owned in “build quality” they lacked in brand connectivity. Genesis was hired to help create a brand visual language to help tie the products into a cohesive whole in the global marketplace. Finding the center of the brand design was based on our uncovering the “truth in materials” position. Genesis created the personalities and graphics for bikes built for the world’s diverse cultures.
We ask that you return your bike to the same place it was purchased. Capable on and off road, it was a gentle step away from our original Vapour and towards a bike that was intended to go further… but we never imagined quite how much further. Almost the antithesis of the Day One, the Flyer is sublime in its simplicity. It employs easily adjustable rim brakes, a single 42×17 gear, and it has mudguards to keep the spray off. Although the frame is steel, it’s relatively lightweight with a carbon fork and no excess components weighing it down. This is a bike that will zip around town without a second thought. The angles are steep, the front end is low and there aren’t mudguard or pannier mounts.
The frame is fully carbon and the cables are integrated into the frame for a cleaner look and better aerodynamics. With a 2×9 Shimano Sora groupset and mechanical disc brakes, there are notable differences to the higher end Croix de Fer. But these won’t present an impediment to getting out and using the frame for the huge variety of applications it has the capability for. Gravel riding, endurance road riding, cycle-touring, commuting, these are all still possible on this bike – it’s just a more accessible platform to get started with. Though we’re a bike shop that sells, builds and fixes bicycles, they’re really just the means to an end; albeit a beautifully designed means to an idyllic end.
Front disc and rear linear pull handbrakes keep your speed under control, while the overstuffed springer style saddle and rise handlebars give the rider a comfortable and upright riding position. Whether you’re on an off-road adventure or running errands in town, the Whirlwind has all your bases covered. The Venerable Croix de Fer frameset has been a mainstay of the Genesis range since 2009.
Part of this is down to the different frame material, but cheaper components are also a factor. These bikes are designed for longer days out being able to handle heavier loads and rougher roads. Some bikes (such as the Fugio) are more oriented genesis bike towards the rough stuff, whereas others (such as the Croix de Fer) are better suited to carrying loads. Over ten years the range expanded beyond commuter bikes to include road, mountain, cyclo-cross, gravel, kids and fat bikes.
