Uprights, Recumbents, Indoor Cycling

Bicycle output in the United States grew to over a million units per year by the turn of the 20th century. Staying active is a whole lot easier when you have fun and look good doing it. Our comfort hybrid bikes bring classic styling to modern functionality for rides that are all about taking it easy (but not too easy!). There are two backlit LCD displays to keep track of all your metrics, but the only downside is the tablet holder is built into those displays so anything you place there will cover up those screens (which also has a charging port). That’s not the biggest problem in the world, but unless your cycling app tracks your metrics in real time, you won’t be able to see them until your ride is over. The Schwinn 170 Upright Bike is the only Schwinn exercise bike on this list that we haven’t personally tested, but based on our years of experience of testing and reviewing exercise equipment, we like what we see.

The original factory in Chicago that once employed as many as 2,000 people is long gone. The Schwinn brand is now owned by a Dutch conglomerate that manufactures bikes overseas and sells them to big box stores such as Target and Walmart. Most models of Schwinn bikes have years of images and information via old catalogs, advertisements and Schwinn documentation. This page lists Schwinn bicycles models (sorted alphabetically) and links to their details. The brand name passed through a number of owners over the following years, including Schwinn/GT, which also went bankrupt in 2001.

And with so many great options to choose from, it can be difficult to name the best exercise bike from Schwinn because, as always, it’s going to depend on a few things. With over 100 years schwinn bicycles of cycling history, Schwinn is one of America’s oldest brands of bike. Today’s range features affordable, good quality bikes for the casual rider, the commuter and the fitness enthusiast.

But like other Schwinn bikes, the Schwinn 230 has Bluetooth capabilities to connect to cycling apps like Zwift or the Peloton app to help diversify your riding experience. You can also connect to Polar heart rate monitors via Bluetooth as well. The bike comes with 13 built-in workout programs and an LCD display to keep track of your heart rate, total distance, speed, and calories burned, so it’s pretty basic in terms of its tech features. Also, the LCD display on this one isn’t backlit so those with eyesight issues may want to get a tablet on the media holder ASAP. On the bright side, the screen has a USB port so you can charge your devices as you ride. Regardless of the type of rider you are, Schwinn has a new Schwinn bike that fits you.

This range has more of a focus on speed than the cruiser or bike path range, with flat handlebars and a more fitness-orientated riding position. For many people the Schwinn brand is one that is steeped in nostalgia. One of its most famous models – the kid’s Sting-Ray bike – was the bike that every child wanted to own in the late 1960s. Its iconic ape-hanger handlebars and banana seat were copied by many other manufacturers after they saw Schwinn’s success. In the 1950s, Schwinn began to aggressively cultivate bicycle retailers, persuading them to sell Schwinns as their predominant, if not exclusive brand. During this period, bicycle sales enjoyed relatively slow growth, with the bulk of sales going to youth models.

The Schwinn brand was then purchased by the current owners, Pacific Cycle, Inc. This company is part of Dorel Industries and it also owns a number of other bike brands, including Cannondale, [GT Bicycles](/s/-/gt and Mongoose. The company was founded in 1895 in Chicago by a mechanical engineer who was born in Germany – Ignaz Schwinn. The company survived many ups and downs, including the introduction of the car, the war years, and the depression.

The Sting-Ray[28] sales boom of the 1960s accelerated in 1970, with United States bicycle sales doubling over a period of two years. Put more energy into cycling and less into worrying with our ERT helmets. All our ERT helmets feature a layer of foam designed to help redirect force away from your head more effectively. The Schwinn 170 is a Bluetooth-enabled upright bike with overall positive reviews. One downside is that it doesn’t come with a screen so you’ll have to supply your own iPad or laptop to take advantage of the JRNY, Explore the World, or any other cycling app you might choose to use with this bike. The Schwinn Collegiate to be produced in Detroit is intended to reflect the leisurely aesthetic evoked by the 1965 version, says Ryan Birkicht, senior communications manager at Schwinn Bikes.
