We looked for trikes that can be passed down from child to child. We tested tricycles made from steel, aluminum, and plastic, in varying combinations. Compared with trikes that were 100% plastic, trikes with at least some steel tended to age better and more consistently stood up to a beating. Make memories that will last a lifetime with the Schwinn Kid’s 12 in. This retro-styled children’s roadster trike is designed with a low center of gravity, making climbing on and off during play easy and safe. Our kids bikes include great features like removable training wheels and adjustable seat heights.
But the Schwinn Meridian Tricycle for adults is an excellent alternative to a bicycle for your commute or weight loss. The MyRider Midi has no extras, but it accommodates older kids. The banana-shaped bike seat doesn’t adjust, but because of its ample length, kids can comfortably push back and stretch their legs as they grow. We found that bigger kids could more comfortably ride the MyRider Midi than our other picks, and that could help justify the much higher price tag.
It weighs 17½ pounds, and it has a low center of gravity, which prevents tips and allows the trike to take corners. With a wide rear wheel position, the Meridian tricycle provides more stability than a bicycle so riders of all experience levels can get around easily. The low standover aluminum frame makes it easy to get on and off, while the extra-large seat offers superior comfort on every ride.
The 4-in-1 Stroll ’N Trike has a steel frame but is mostly made of plastic (wheels included). So it’s not the most durable option we tested, but it still stood up to several months of heavy use without injury. As a child grows, these little-kid extras are stripped away, leaving a trike they can ride independently. This single speed adult trike is extremely easy to maintain and perfect for cruising along at your own pace in relatively flat areas. It has a large, foldable basket that’s great for carrying bags of groceries or hauling anything else you might need.
Align the slots on the fender tabs with the slots on the wire basket frame. From the inside of the basket, insert a screw through each of the three basket slots and fender braces. Align the slots on the basket with the threaded holes in the tricycle frame. Place a washer over each of the four screws, then install and tighten the screws. Unfold the basket cover and place it into the middle of the basket.
Our kids loved to ride this trike on many types of terrain, and Radio Flyer has a solid, two-year warranty program. This model is also a bit less expensive than most of the schwinn tricycle other options we tried. That means this trike has more plastic features, but it also means it’s lightweight—a solid bonus for kids who want to take corners with speed.
