I did have a few inches along the edge for some clothes, a water bottle, and a headlamp, but that could have been made wider with a narrower sleeping pad. But over the last few years my wife and I are into longer hikes. We hike anywhere from 3 to 4 miles at a time up to 7 miles with a goal of a 10-mile round trip day hike. Comfy and roomy pants or shorts are best (hopefully with pockets, so kids can carry their own snacks and trash).

If you find a brand that specializes in ozark tent the size you want, you’re likely to end up with a great product.
