Our electric bikes are your best friend, powerful and sturdy enough to help you get things done safely and quickly. This recall involves Schwinn Abbott Adult Men’s Full Suspension Mountain Bicycles. The bicycles are black with green, yellow and blue accent colors on the downtubes. “Schwinn” is printed in green and yellow on the downtube of the bicycle and “Abbott” is printed in blue on the top tube of the bicycle near the bicycle stem and handlebars.
Like the other bikes, the Traxion has a Shimano triple front crank, but it is equipped with an 8-speed cassette on the rear. It’s going to give you a few more gears for those demanding climbs. The lower the number, the better components that the bike has. They come with front suspension, typically a Zoom fork with 60mm of travel. It is going to dampen light bumps but not something you’re going to want to take to a downhill mountain bike course.
This machine is very rugged with minor mechanical upkeep. Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC. Each bike uses a triple front chainset and a large cassette on the rear. You won’t struggle with hills as there are many options.
The pedals have toe cages only—if you want to use cycling shoes, you need to swap out the pedals for a set of your choosing. A big draw with these bikes is the ability to ride along with an app, to approximate an in-person indoor-cycling class. But four of our five picks also allow you to ride unconnected, for basic cardio.
On top of that, if the bike isn’t connected to the app and engaged in a class, the resistance isn’t adjustable, and you lose a lot of riding potential. The number of daily live classes is on a par with Peloton’s (and the on-demand library features more than 3,000 on-demand workouts both on and schwinn bicycles off the bike). But Echelon’s overall app organization isn’t as clean as Peloton’s, and—though the instructors are enthusiastic and some are very solid—the rides, workouts, and trainers can be hit or miss. In our testing, the magnetic resistance adjusted smoothly and was fairly responsive.
I am looking for a nice comfortable steel bike with no suspensions to ride around the city, rough cobblestone, and trails if necessary. This bike is suited to shorter people than the Traxion, so Schwinn has given it smaller wheels at the size of 26″. This makes it much better for the user and does add a lot of control to the rider but takes away some schwinn bicycles top speed. Like all the Schwinn bikes, it’s made on aluminum and is going to be relatively lightweight and super strong. This is a bike that is going to be at home more in the mud than on the road but will be able to go anywhere. It also has trigger shifters instead of twist shifters which are a lovely touch and much better for off-road riding.
A small, inward-facing, paddle-like extension at the tip of each handlebar provides a surprisingly satisfying surface to hold during out-of-the-saddle (standing) riding. The Schwinn IC4’s seat didn’t leave much of an impression in our tests—a good sign. During our testing, we rode the IC4 with cycling shoes compatible with its SPD clips; the bike has toe-cage pedals on the flip side for use with non-cycling shoes.
