I do like the tent, lots of space, easy to put up, but a couple of things I didn’t like, the front door zippers always get stuck on the little rain flap that covers the zipper. I sprayed the tent with camp dry because I knew it was going to rain the next day. Some rain did get in near the bottom of rear window. I had a Coleman tent in the past and payed twice the money and this tent is just as good as that one. I would love to have a tent with sturdy metal poles, but nobody seems to make a reasonably priced tent with sturdy poles any more. I don’t like D-shaped zippers because they don’t seem to last long term.
All these windows are pretty small, which limits ventilation on a hot day. And on top of that, all these windows need to be closed on a rainy day. This shelter may be the least expensive in our roundup, but it still packs some sweet features worth noting. Our favorite is the “storage locker” which gives you a protected place to store items like muddy shoes outside the tent, but can also be accessed from inside using a second zipper. It’s a great spot to stash your “middle of the night bathroom break” shoes and anything else you don’t want taking up space inside the tent.
In the morning we woke up to a STILL warm tent (grill still running of course) and 20 inches of snow on the ground and about 10 inches still on the tent. Tapped tent walls and snow slid right off the dome. That day it all melted ozark trail screen house and tent stayed dry inside while the fabric dried very quickly. Wind was now blowing at a constant 30mph and snow driving HARD. Lit the propane grill inside the tent and soon the tent was warm enough to take off our jackets.
Oddly enough, Ozark Trail’s most basic, base bones shelter takes the title of most durable. We chose the Ozark Trail Clip & Camp because unlike larger cabins with plastic hubs and countless poles, this traditional two-pole dome has the fewest number of parts that can potentially fail. When you’re looking at what you want in a tent, consider how many people are going to be using it.
This would be great for anyone that plans to sit down in the shelter. The one exception to the rule here is for the larger cabin-style tents, especially those with an “instant tent” design that uses pre-attached poles. These shelters tend to be much heavier and bulkier when packed up due to the frame design, so you’ll want to make sure you’ve got room to transport them in your vehicle and store them in your home before buying.
I don’t know why they didn’t put a straight zipper in the center with two straight zippers across the bottom. That design would probably be more durable long term. Ozark Trail has re-innovated its sun shelter models since the 2080 model, made prior to 2011. The newer generations include a Model W418.1A 8-foot-by-6-foot sun shelter with two poles that slide through pockets. The other model, the Ozark Trail 8-foot-by-8-foot Instant Sun Shade, is an unfolding model with its tent poles attached.
Put coats on, turned the grill to the lowest setting and went to sleep. This tent, still new in the cardboard box inside the carry bag and never set up, was the best thing to happen to me. We got where we were going in late evening, and that night (about 20 minutes after arriving) we started feeling frozen droplets.
If you plan to use it during summer, you may want to consider taking advantage of its e-port to run a tent air conditioner. Finally, keep in mind that this is a single wall shelter, which means there’s a lot riding on the quality of the tent fabric and seams. Plenty of customers swear by the Ozark Trail Yurt’s waterproofing, but we recommend treating it with an extra DWR treatment and sealing any missing seams before putting it to work. With that being said, Ozark Trail does a good job of seam-sealing their tents from the factory in most cases, and with a little help, these budget-shelters can keep you dry when unexpected rain hits. Take time to treat the entire tent with a DWR coating like Nikwax (not just the rainfly) and never leave the house without a tent repair kit in case disaster strikes. Layout wise is virtually identical to the Core Instant Cabin we evaluated for our 10 person tent roundup, but delivers those same massive interior dimensions for about $100 less. Cabin-style construction means vertical walls and impressively high ceilings (they’re over 7 feet) span the length of the tent, so you’ll have plenty of room to spread out even with two queen-sized mattresses inside. Ozark Trail is all about big family camping tents on a budget, and few are as big and budget-friendly as the Ozark Trail 10 Person Two-Room Cabin.
