Igloo 70 Qt Premium Trailmate Wheeled Review 2023

This includes things such as a butler try, storage pocket, built-in bottle openers, food basket, optional LED light, and more. Head out to your favorite picnic spot with your meal packed in the Igloo Trailmate™ Journey 70 qt. A built-in stand on the lid provides space to store your mobile device.

This is a pretty bold statement considering we have reviewed a ton of wheeled coolers in the past. However, this claim is easily defended considering the superior ice retention and the included features/accessories. Igloo coolers are insulated, and as such, each container efficiently protects against heat and cold elements. These coolers are not designed to heat or cool an object, but with their foam insulation, your Igloo keeps the temperature at the same level for an extended period of time.

For the stuff you want to keep dry but cold, you can put it in the food basket that’s right on top of the cold section. They are made of marine grade strength aluminum, which means that you don’t have to worry about these metal parts rusting, especially when you’re out at sea. The metal is also extremely strong without having to be unbearably heavy. The Trailmate is meant to be the ultimate cooler for all terrains. It’s supposed to be your one size fits all party kit that you can take with you wherever you want, with plenty of beer, of course! However, there was still something missing from Igloo, and that was the fact that they didn’t have a proper wheeled cooler for those who just didn’t like the idea of carrying a cooler.

According to Igloo, this cooler will keep your ice icy for up to 4 days. That’s where you really feel the pinch in the fact that this cooler is not rotomolded. However, just like we said before, we think the features and the price make it worth it. Though at first glance the Trailmate looks like a great deal, we’re not so sure. Its wide wheels and high clearance help it navigate a variety of challenging terrain, but the performance of this cooler in insulation and particularly its lackluster durability leaves us wanting more. But if wheels and features are what you’re after and a budget is what you’re on, the Igloo might be the right fit for your life.

Typically you can expect the ice in your Igloo cooler to last 2-3 days while keeping your food and beverages safe. The construction of the cooler is strong and durable; it’s a cooler built to last. Though not rotomolded (like the Yeti Tundra Haul), it does still have a thick layer of their THERMECOOL™ insulation that is eco-friendly and promises to keep ice frozen for up to four days.

First of all, the Igloo Trailmate was designed to be the ultimate all-terrain cooler. With wide heavy-duty wheels and extendable handles, it’s meant for long hauls across grass, sand, gravel… you name it. You will find plenty of storage space inside the insulated area but that is only the beginning. The Igloo Trailmate Cooler also comes with additional storage for your non-chilled items. You will find a special dry storage bin that is perfect for your electronics, wallets, or other items that you want to stay secure and not get wet.

I’ll use the umbrella attachment the most, as it’s never a bad idea to find some extra shade on a hot day. This was a cooler I had my eye on for years and finally snagged one to test out. The cooler caught my eye with the unique styling and the large wheels in the back. Truck Freight is used to ship items that exceed standard shipping limitations on weight and/or size.

igloo trailmateWhile we sort of wish that they would have gone with Rotomolded construction, this process would have likely greatly increased the size, weight, and cost of the cooler. The next most notable feature is the glide handle that also doubles as a butler tray. This feature is something that you will find on very few other coolers on the market and it is a great way to stand out from the crowd while having a nifty feature. Finally, one of the most important aspects is the mobility of this cooler.
