The frame is equipped with a MINO Link, allowing you to alter rear suspension geometry. Additionally, despite shipping with 29-inch front and rear wheels, you can swap out the back wheel for a 27.5-inch wheel to get some added nimbleness at the back. Lastly, Trek’s ABP suspension design is composed of a concentric rear pivot, allowing full suspension actuation under braking. In collaboration with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we have rated bike helmets using the STAR evaluation system. Our impact tests evaluate a helmet’s ability to reduce linear acceleration and rotational velocity of the head resulting from a range of head impacts a cyclist might experience. Helmets with more stars provide a reduction in concussion risk for these impacts compared to helmets with less stars.
It is a little heavy to carry up stairs but other than that its a great looking and handeling bike. The greatest restriction on how fast you can go when pinning singletrack is the tyres, yes they are fast rolling but they lack bite, something with greater cornering grip would certainly show off bikes handling better. Set up was simple, the bike did come with a whole bunch of spacers below the stem, after less than 30 seconds on the bike I had these shuffled to get the front as low as possible and it was off to the trails.
The retention system often becomes more comfortable and adjustable on a more expensive helmet. Bear in mind that these are all about out and out speed from A to B so might not be suitable/ UCI or other governing body legal for anything other than time trialing events. Giro claims that the Eclipse is the fastest ever aero helmet – which we aren’t able to verify, although our tester did achieve his fastest ever downhill speed and upped his average overall while wearing it. The Giro Eclipse Spherical helmet uses Giro’s MIPS Spherical tech, where MIPS forms the filling in a sandwich between two EPS foam layers. Airflow was impressive and kept us comfortable even in 35C-plus heat, the straps fit well without flapping and there’s space to insert sunnies in the front vents.
Actual weight of the Genesis V2100 is in the pound range, depending on the accuracy of your scale. It wouldn’t be too much work to bring that down a bit by swapping the heavy steel riser bar for an aluminum one. Of course, any weight savings from the bar swap would be offset when it comes time to replace the pedals (after about two rides or less), as they seem to have earned a reputation as the genesis bicycles cheapest pedals ever. We did note that in online reviews, the average owner spent an additional $80 or more to get their bike in working order. Trailside, it would be a bit cumbersome to fix a flat on the Genesis V2100, since it isn’t equipped with quick release axles at either end. Don’t count on an open end or adjustable wrench, as these nutted axles don’t have the best hardware either.
However it was getting late in the year, so I wanted to bike before the snow came, so I bought it. The Tour de Fer is a steel touring-specific bike with a longer, stable wheelbase, and comes complete with mudguards and racks. The Mantle is the brand’s XC and endurance bike, and is a full carbon 29er hardtail with 100mm travel. The Montane Icemen (Pete Sissons and Paul Cosgrove) underlined the bikes capabilities as they used a pair of Croix de Fers to circumnavigate the 1600-mile coastline of Iceland in 14 days. And the Suspension fork with 80mm travel absorbs certain bumps, allowing me to enjoy the speed without having to deal too much with the soreness and numbness from the bumps.
