Score a mopping Shark robot vacuum for $300 off at Amazon

Wagner chief’s Yevgeny Prigozhin’s armed rebellion casts doubt on whether Putin controls the Russian military, the House Intelligence chair said. Rachel Cericola is a senior staff writer at Wirecutter who has been covering smart-home technology since shark robotic vacuums the days of X10. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Wired, Men’s Health, USA Today, and others. She hopes her neighbors read this bio because it would explain why she always has four video doorbells running simultaneously outside her home.

Last October, ITC Administrative Law Judge MaryJoan McNamara released her preliminary findings. They came back as less a knockout for either company than a split decision. McNamara found that SharkNinja was in violation of parts of two of the four patents at issue in iRobot’s complaint. But the judge’s finding was what’s known as an initial determination, meaning parts of it are under review by the full ITC.

It applies just enough water/cleaning solution—in fact, we thought it was superior to a regular mop in terms of not using too much moisture on hard surfaces. Still, this robot vacuum is pretty agile and moves quickly when it does bump into a solid object. The Roomba 890 has the same run time as the Shark ION 750 and 720 models (60 minutes). It features a centrally located “Clean” button on the face of the vacuum with a handle, and dust bin release latch.

This is the first vacuum from Roomba to include an RGB camera and obstacle avoidance technology. Plus the auto-empty base and excellent cleaning performance are important factors as well. The S9+ offers advanced digital mapping, excellent navigation, digital keep out zones, scheduling, incredible suction, and more. It’s easily the most advanced and high-end robot vacuum we’ve tested to date. IRobot Roomba is more established as a robot vacuum manufacturer vs. Shark.

Which one is right for you all depends on the type of flooring you have, whether you have pets, or how many obstacles you have to avoid. Both are almost equally matched, but if we have to choose one, it would be Shark. Roomba tends to do a better job on many types of flooring from tile to laminate or low-pile carpet. Regardless of the price and features, it all comes down to whether you will need to spend time going back over the floor after the unit is finished. We have already discussed some of the features such as self-emptying, the ability to control the unit from your smartphone, and others.

They can handle pet hair and navigate intelligently around furniture or other obstacles. They can find their way from room to room to clean exactly where you want, when you want. Some have powerful suction that even rivals that of handheld vacuums. You’ll need to keep an eye on your budget, though, because robot vacs can set you back more than a traditional vacuum. Some higher-end models cost upwards of four figures; fortunately, we can recommend plenty of perfectly capable cleaners that cost a lot less. We made sure to try out all available features on each vacuum—including smart mapping, voice command, object avoidance, and more—and evaluated how intuitive they were to use and whether they work as advertised.

My favorite robot vacuum is still the insanely reliable and accurate Roborock Q5+ (9/10, WIRED Recommends), but with a self-emptying bin, it costs $600. The Shark AI Ultra has two functions, not one, and is roughly the same price. The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is the least expensive self-emptying model in the brand’s current lineup, but we were underwhelmed by its performance.

The whole point of a robot vacuum is to cut down on your housework, but cleaning the unit itself can become just another chore on your (probably already long) list. If you’re tired of emptying your bot’s bursting dustbin on the daily, consider investing in a more self-sufficient model with automatic bin-emptying abilities. Whether you’re looking to avoid allergens or simply want to do as little housework as possible, these are the top self-emptying robot vacuums we’ve tested. While the s9+ doesn’t have the Precision Navigation feature that the newer j7 does, it has something called “Careful Driver” that uses a 3D sensor to detect and clean around objects.
